Iana Lifar

Born in Kiev, Ukrania, Iana and her husband David first met Indra Devi, or Mataji, in 1982. That same year, she started learning Hatha Yoga from her first teacher, Loreto Caro, of the Sai Baba Center, Buenos Aires. In February 1985, Indra Devi decided to settle in Buenos Aires, and Iana became a personal student. Iana had soon become Mataji's assistant, helping her in her classes, seminars and workshops. When, in 1987, Mataji decided to create the Indra Devi Foundation, Iana became a member of the Board of Directors. She played a full part over the period 1988 to 1990, when the Indra Devi Foundation organized the 1st. 2nd, and 3rd 'International Encounters of Teachers of Yoga'. These drew such luminaries in yoga as Swami Satchidananda. In 1990 the Foundation's work entered a new phase as the Headquarters supervised the opening of a number of Yoga Studios dedicated to spreading Mataji's work. In May 1993 Iana was invited to participate in the conference entitled “100 years of Yoga in America”, held in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. In 1995 she succeeded as Vice-Director of the Foundation's Yoga Teacher Training Institute which is recognized by the National Ministry of Education in Argentina. In 1996, along with her husband David Lifar, she instituted a series of Anti-Stress Courses and the two lead a special yearly retreat in Cordoba, Argentina.
